News > Nexus Co-founder Marianne Corrao Selected to Crain’s Cleveland Business 2020 Women of Note Class
Corrao joins a group of talented women honored for their exceptional commitment to Northeast Ohio
Cleveland, OH – Nexus Engineering Group LLC congratulates Co-Founder and Executive Vice President Marianne Corrao on her recent selection to the Crain’s Cleveland Business 2020 Women of Note Class. Each year, the honor is extended to a group of talented women who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to Northeast Ohio.
In 2005, Marianne founded Nexus Engineering Group with business partner and longtime colleague Jeff Herzog. After 25 years of working in operating companies and in engineering consulting firms, they saw an opportunity to create an engineering consultancy that was focused on more than just billable hours and project deliverables. They wanted to build a firm where engineers and designers work together with their clients to understand how their project work impacts the operational and financial health of client operations.
More importantly, they set out to create a company in Cleveland with a work environment and culture that would attract the best engineering talent. The company started with just the two of them – today it consists of more than 140 creative, collaborative, and talented professionals.
Marianne has been a critical part of helping Nexus grow. In 2019, the company grew 19% in annual revenue and hit a major company milestone of $20 million plus in revenue. That year it hired 55 new team members, promoted 23 existing team members, and recorded its 5,000th day of zero safety incidents.
Mentoring young engineering talent is a passion of Marianne’s. Marianne graduated from Cleveland State University with a degree in Chemical Engineering. During her time at CSU she was hired as a co-op student by Standard Oil of Ohio (Sohio). It was that experience that gave her a passion for mentorship. “Given my personal experience and the impact it had on me, I have always embraced being a mentor whenever the opportunity presents itself,” Corrao told Crain’s Cleveland Business in her Women of Note profile. “I was eager to initiate a co-op program at Nexus Engineering Group, and we are now in our fourth year.”
Today, she is the executive sponsor of the Nexus co-op program, is actively involved in mentorship at the firm, and serves on the Engineering Advisory boards at Cleveland State University and the University of Toledo.
“Marianne Corrao is a truly remarkable woman in engineering,” says Emily Gambill, director of business strategy and marketing at Nexus, who nominated Corrao for the honor. “Not only is she an expert in her field, she is passionate about creating a great working environment for her team and helping young engineering talent succeed in the field.”
