Nexus Advances on 2026 ENR Top 500 Design Firms List

Cleveland, OH – May 2026 – Nexus Engineering Group, a full-service, independent engineering, procurement, and construction management (EPCm) firm, has advanced on Engineering News-Record’s (ENR) 2026 Top 500 Design Firms list, ranking No. 422, up from No. 440 in its debut year.

Each year, ENR ranks U.S.-based firms according to design-specific revenue, recognizing engineering leaders across the industry. Nexus’ continued rise on the ENR Top 500 list reflects sustained growth, expanded capabilities, and the collective efforts of its team in delivering integrated EPCm solutions to clients across the energy and industrial markets.

“Moving up on the ENR Top 500 Design Firms list is a meaningful milestone for our team,” said Jeff Herzog, President and Co-Founder of Nexus Engineering Group. “It reflects the consistent focus we place on our people, our client partnerships, and delivering practical, high-quality solutions.”

Building on a Strong Foundation

Nexus’ improved ENR ranking follows a year of significant momentum. In 2025, the firm achieved 12% year-over-year growth, while continuing to expand its services across key industrial and energy sectors. The year also marked Nexus’ 20th anniversary, celebrating two decades of evolution from a two-person consultancy to a 250+ person EPCm firm supporting projects across more than a dozen states.

To support growing client demand, Nexus strengthened its end-to-end project delivery model by adding depth across project services and controls, procurement, and construction management. The firm also expanded its Power & Energy capabilities, adding transmission and distribution services to complement its established expertise in substation design, power systems analysis, and power generation.

The firm continues to evolve its service offerings by expanding support for clients in the rapidly growing data center market.

“The scale of power needs and the urgency to bring capacity online are driving significant opportunity,” said Tim Hoekenga, Senior Director of Emerging Markets at Nexus. “We’re well positioned to support these projects with our existing capabilities, while continuing to grow our talent base to meet accelerating demand.”

Investing in People and Capability

Growth in 2025 was matched by continued investment in Nexus’ team and culture. The firm welcomed 28 new full-time team members across its multi-office footprint in Cleveland and Maumee, Ohio; Midland, Michigan; and Oak Brook, Illinois. Nexus also implemented a comprehensive technical training program to support early-career engineers, reinforcing its long-term commitment to technical excellence.

These efforts contributed to a 90% retention rate and recognition as a Top Workplace in Northeast Ohio, underscoring the firm’s focus on building a workplace where professionals can grow and thrive.

Demonstrating Capability Through Complex Project Delivery

That momentum translated into successful execution across a diverse set of complex energy and industrial projects in 2025. Nexus supported major client investments by managing technically challenging scopes, coordinating large multidiscipline teams, and maintaining alignment across cost, schedule, and constructability.

Notable project deliveries included:

  • A $1 billion expansion of a major chemical manufacturing facility, providing integrated engineering and project support for a longterm capacity investment
  • A 138kV substation expansion, strengthening power infrastructure to support industrial growth and reliability
  • Delivery of 28 work packages for a large chemical facility turnaround, requiring precise planning, sequencing, and schedule control in a highrisk operating environment

These projects reflect Nexus’ ability to scale its EPCm approach to meet client needs—from large capital programs to fastpaced, executioncritical work—while maintaining a focus on safety, quality, and predictable outcomes.

Looking Ahead

In 2026, Nexus Engineering Group remains focused on disciplined growth while continuing to deliver excellence for its longstanding industrial clients across refining, chemical processing, and midstream markets. These sectors remain a core foundation of the firm’s work, where deep process knowledge, operational insight, and execution certainty continue to drive value for complex, capitalintensive projects.

At the same time, Nexus is capitalizing on growth opportunities in adjacent and emerging markets, particularly data centers and power infrastructure. Expanding demand for reliable, scalable power is driving continued investment in transmission, distribution, and power generation—areas where Nexus has strengthened its technical depth and integrated EPCm delivery approach.

To support this balanced strategy, the firm is investing in specialized technical talent, project controls, and scalable execution processes that enable predictable outcomes across both established industrial programs and scheduledriven power and data center projects. Maintaining responsiveness, quality, and client trust remains central as Nexus supports projects that are increasing in size, complexity, and speed to market.

With strong industrial roots, expanding power and energy capabilities, and a team aligned around client outcomes, Nexus is well positioned to build on its momentum and continue advancing among the nation’s leading design firms.
