News > Nexus Engineering Group’s Maumee Office Celebrates 10 Years of Innovation and EPCM Leadership
EPCM Firm Grows Exponentially from Four Founders to Over 80 Team Members, Cementing Its Thriving Regional Leadership
Toledo, OH, January 23, 2025 – Nexus Engineering Group, a full-service, independent engineering, procurement, and construction management (EPCM) firm, is proudly celebrating the 10th anniversary of its Maumee, Ohio, office and nearly 20 years of exceptional client services.
The Maumee office was established in 2014 to address a growing need for detailed engineering and design expertise for one of Nexus’ primary clients. Founding Partners Jeff Herzog and Marianne Corrao recognized the importance of offering local project management, process, and technical service to support the refinery’s operations.
Nexus’ Maumee office has since become a trusted partner, delivering innovative solutions to clients across Northwestern Ohio, Central Michigan, and the Detroit metro area. The office served over 50 clients in 2024 alone.
“The 10-year anniversary of our Maumee office is a proud milestone in our journey to build a top-tier EPCM firm,” says Nexus Co-Founder and Executive Vice President Marianne Corrao. “This office represents our commitment to delivering projects from concept through detailed engineering, construction coordination, commissioning, and closeout.”
Each Nexus location was built upon a foundation of great engineers, paving way for tailored approaches to each client’s unique project goals. The firm opened its Maumee office in late 2014 with four founding Team members – Doug Smith, Jason Didion, Gregg Pinkelman, and Brian Heinlin.
“This group was integral to the foundation of the Nexus Team in Maumee,” Corrao adds. “Their credibility and leadership were exactly what we needed to establish and expand our engineering and design capabilities in the region.”
Shortly after, within one year of business, Nexus welcomed Jason Viers, Eli Szymanowski, Sean Stroshine, Scott Wedding, and Kim Key to the Maumee Team. Currently, the over 80-person Maumee hub and on-site Team members make up over 30% of Nexus’ total Team. Looking forward, the firm is poised to further build upon its success by expanding its dynamic Maumee Team in 2025.
Engineering Director Jason Didion, one of Maumee’s founding Team members, reflected on the office’s growth. “In our 10 years, we’ve developed a refined, strategic approach to the clients we serve, the EPCM services we offer, and our long-term vision for Nexus Engineering Group,” says Didion.
Didion highlighted the cross-office synergy between Maumee and Nexus’ headquarters in Cleveland as one of the office’s most significant achievements.
“In line with the principles championed at our Cleveland headquarters, the Maumee office fosters the same empowering management style. We encourage our team to make informed decisions, bring innovative ideas forward, and drive achievements with a winning mentality and unparalleled quality of work.”
Senior Project Director Gregg Pinkelman added, “Our goal when we started the Maumee office was to build strong partnerships with our clients. This vision, established by Jeff and Marianne, has been our guiding focus. Today, we are proud to collaborate with outstanding partners and exceptional team members. When you have great clients, it becomes a cohesive effort, with everyone striving toward the same goal.”
The establishment of the Maumee office not only allowed Nexus to expand its business footprint, but it also now serves as a hub for attracting top-tier engineering talent in the Toledo region.
“You can’t help but marvel at how quickly time flies by,” says President Jeff Herzog. “The Maumee office has been instrumental in maintaining our high level of customer service and responsiveness over the past 10 years. “
In 2024, Nexus introduced an Employee Stock Ownership Program (ESOP), underscoring its dedication to investing in its people and fostering a culture of ownership and collaboration.
Herzog forecasts the continuation of building a strong Team in the region. “The Maumee office has brought incredible people into the Nexus family – individuals who possess the same mindset Marianne and I had when we started the firm in 2005. We want to take care of our partners and build a great company culture.”
As Nexus commemorates this milestone, the Maumee office stands as a testament to the firm’s mission to deliver innovative engineering solutions while fostering a collaborative, welcoming culture.
Nexus has plans to expand its regional presence in Toledo, enhancing its ability to serve clients across all sectors and reaffirming its commitment to comprehensive growth and service excellence.
A key focus is the expansion of the Project Services Team, and under the leadership of Chris Ackerman, Project Services Director, the firm is excited to welcome new talent to contribute to the thriving Maumee hub. This initiative underscores Nexus’s commitment to strengthening its local presence and driving continued success throughout the Toledo area.
